Carl Fismer

Captain Carl Fismer with Dewey in Key West, Florida.

Meet Carl Fismer from Islamorada, Florida.

I have been a friend of Dewey's for years, and to my good luck that led to a friendship with Gerry. I know they have millions of fan's, and have left an indelible mark in music. Theirs will be around forever while most of what you hear today will flash in the pan, and fade forever. I feel sorry for people that will not get the chance to know these men personally. I have met thousands of people in my business over the last thirty years, including celebrities, but I have never met more "down to earth" or nicer people. About fifteen years ago Dewey phoned me at my home in the Florida Keys, and invited me to a concert in Miami Beach. One of the luckiest days of my life. We have been friends and diving buddies ever since.

I own the Spanish Main Treasure Co. Key Largo, Florida Keys. I have helped book a concert here in the Keys for the third week this coming November. Gerry said he would like to go fishing, and we have friends that charter. Dewey will go diving this time, if we have time. He has been treasure hunting with me up on the East Coast of Florida. A fleet of Spanish Galleons went down there in 1715.

I also know Woodsy, Willie and, Brad. The first time I met these guys was backstage in Miami Beach. I walked back with Dewey and announced that I had just tuned their instruments, and they had nothing to worry about. Since this was the first time they ever saw me, a look of concern came over their faces. Then Dewey started laughing and that broke the ice. I used to help another big time band when they traveled in Florida. I won't say their name but, when I realized they were a bunch of a--holes. I never had anything else to do with them.

A few months ago Dewey came down for a visit. Next morning he came walking out of the spare bedroom, and there I sat with my guitar (surprise I'm taking lessons). I said "check this out" and started playing "Horse With No Name". Dewey stood there watching, and said "that sounds pretty good, but I've never seen it done that way". Then he showed me the secret of tuning for that number.
