Jan Godbey

Meet Jan Godbey from Glendale, Ohio.

I've been a fan of America since 1976 when I attended my first-ever concert, an America concert. Growing up with two older sisters, I was listening to America's music but wasn't knowing to whom I was listening. With the advent of the teenage years came my interminable crush on Dewey and Gerry (and, at the time, Dan). I wrote fan letters, sent flowers to them when they were in town for concerts, took concert pictures (I've got some beauties!), collected concert T-shirts, and started wearing a gold cross (similar to the ones Gerry used to wear). My friends and I cruised to their tunes in all seasons, and I even picked up guitar playing for my own pleasure by learning some chords to their songs (Thanks, Cis!) From 1976 through approximately 1989, I attended every America concert when the trio (or duo) came to the greater Cleveland area; sometimes I was even fortunate enough to attend two concerts a year. My streak came to an end when I married and moved to Cincinnati, where I currently reside. (They don't get to this part of the state very often.) However, I have been known to play hooky from my job to travel back to Cleveland to catch a show. Once, in the very early 90's, I even managed to meet Dewey and Gerry at an after-show gathering - a thrilling yet embarrassing experience! While America's music has changed (yet still remained distinctively America's music) through the decades, my passion for their music has remained unchanged. When asked who my favorite music group is, I unhesitatingly reply, "America." Their melodies and harmonies and musical arrangements never fail to melt my heart or to stir my soul.

Feel free to send your comments or questions to Jan.
