Bob Lucas

Meet Bob Lucas from Savannah, Georgia.

I knew Gerry Beckley, in fact I sat next to him in Mrs. Knafle's English class, at Kaiserslautern American High School in Germany, the school year of 1966-67. Gerry was in a band called the "Weags". It was no surprise he became world famous and a classic of rock and roll. We had some times in that class so long ago. This web site is wonderful. Thanks. I would like to tell Gerry "hi" and that I have always been a fan-even before America.

I wonder if Gerry remembers the multi-colored CPO shirt he wore at a "Weags" gig at the Vogelweh AYA back in spring '67. I remember him telling me he wore it on stage because his parents didn't want him wearing it to school. His art tendencies were evident when one day he penciled a four block cartoon tale and called it "Walnuts." A play on words, obviously, from the popular "Peanuts." I am so happy for him, have been for many years but never got the chance to talk to him and tell him how proud I am of his accomplishments in music. I did see "America" in the summer of 1975 at Red Rocks outside Denver.

Feel free to send your comments or questions to Bob.
