Ivette Stickelmaier, MD

Meet Ivette Stickelmaier from Manhattan Beach, California.

Hi, I just finished reading the article "Life in the snow lane" on the Easy Reader South Bay local newspaper. Looking at the picture, I never would have recognized the face of whom I met in person some 17 years ago in a Caribbean island after a concert under unexpected circumstances... It was I believe 1985 or 1986 when I attended an America concert at Altos de Chavon (a rustic old sort of Roman Coliseum type of venue) at the Dominican Republic.

It was during my final year of medical school when I had some leisure time to spend. I was in the car in the parking lot with my roommate and friend ready to leave when we heard a gentle tap on the car windshield. Being foreigners in the country we did not expect to know this person... but indeed I "knew" him... it was Dewey Bunnell himself asking for a ride! His hair was longer then and he wore a beard.

I had to warn our friend not to drive away. So we gave him and his female companion a ride back to the Villa Hotel where they were staying. We were invited to have a drink... and cherished the two empty bottles of Chablis autographed by Dewey with the drawing of a straight highway disappearing into the horizon. It was an unforgettable night, despite the drinks, enjoying the unconditional hospitality of this artist fellow American and friends in a foreign country...

Little did I know then we would practically be neighbors now...

Feel free to send your comments or questions to Ivette.
