David Curran

Meet David Curran from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

I can't say enough about this fantastic web page. It should be used as a model for other fan pages. (I'm a big Moody Blues fan and their page could use some help.) I really have enjoyed some of the new features that have been added this month, i.e. the concert play lists. I keep play lists of all the shows I see (my wife thinks I'm nuts). It helps me to remember the shows. Unfortunately, I was only 14 at my first America show, 5/17/75 In Saratoga Springs NY, so I hadn't yet developed that habit. My brother was a big infulence on my taste, he being 5 yrs older. Needless to say he had all of America's Albums at that time, which wasn't too big a deal, they only had 4 back then.

America's music has been sort of a sound track to my life a times, especially Hat Trick. To me that is one of those top 10 albums of all time. Interestingly though, when Hat Trick came out, no one I knew shared my enthusiasm for their music. Then I moved to Florida and met a guy named Jeff Sheperd. We really became friends in part because of our love of America. He was a big Homecoming fan. Together we enjoyed a first listening of America's first record together. It seems neither of us had ever bothered to sit and listen to it. Because of the Hits, we figured we had heard the best of it. Boy, were we wrong. That night back in '85 is another fond memory I have surrounding America.

Then in '93 I met my wife whose first concert was also America, but a wee bit later than mine - circa '79/'80. I turned her on to Hat Trick which became her all time favorite and together with Jeff we have gone to numerous shows down here in the South Florida area.

I had a concert highlight-of-a-lifetime in July of '96 when the boys played on Fort Lauderdale beach and played "Green Monkey". Unfortunatly Jeff was absent but that only kind of made us even. You see a few years earlier they played a gig in West Palm Beach and Jeff met this girl who claimed you could meet the guys after the show if you went to such and such a spot. Sure enough, much to Jeff's suprise she was telling the truth. Needless to say, Jeff had the experience-of-a-lifetime and called me around 2 in the morning when he got home. I don't think I ever forgave him.

Since then I must say up until the Hourglass album the concerts have been the only real highlights I've had. I had been very, very disapointed with their records until then. I am really looking forward to Human Nature's release. The little I've heard (thanks again to Steve's great web page) sound very promising.

Again, its great to find so many folks who enjoy their music as much as Janeen, Jeff and I do. For a while we thought we almost alone down here. And keep up the great work on this web page!

Feel free to send your comments or questions to David.
