Doug Suman

The Professor

"The Professor", Doug Suman, was America's equipment manager for 15 years until he had a child and wanted to spend time at home. Doug is an outstanding musician and quite an America fan. He used to join the guys on stage for Horse and he plays a mean guitar. He still works for them when they are in his area. His father, Lou, is just a great guy, very funny, always has a joke.

I asked Barbara Bickmore how he got his nickname so she consulted her America sources. It turns out that he always looked scholarly so people started calling him "professor". We thought there might be more to the story than that. Oh well.

Jim Nakao shared this memory. "In my younger days, The Professor used to slip me a Gerry or Dewey pick after the show and then Dad would drive me home."
