Hold me close
You turn nighttime into day
And you're the most
Brightest star that lights my way

So come home to me now
'Cause it won't matter anyhow
I've got this feeling that today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day

Turn me out
Turn me out on this fine day
'Cause all about
All the people like to play

So come home to me now
'Cause it won't matter anyhow
I've got this feeling that today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day
I've got this feeling that today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day

Oo, oo ...

Hold me close
You turn nighttime into day
And you're the most
Brightest star that lights my way

So come home to me now
'Cause it won't matter anyhow
I've got this feeling that today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day
I've got this feeling that today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day
I've got this feeling today's the day ...

Highway Highlight (from the box set booklet)
"Today's The Day," an optimistic ballad by Peek, was the album's first single. Though it reached only #23 on the Pop chart, it topped the Adult Contemporary chart for two weeks. Few listeners probably realized that the song was inspired by Dan's dog: "His name was Everett, and he was the typically shaggy sheep dog. He was a reprobate, bouncing off the walls with testosterone. One day he ran away, and we dragged him back, and he was happy to be at home, but he was still a runner at heart. And I just started to write the song. It was sort of a dialogue between owner and beast. In some ways, I related him to myself, because I was such a rebellious soul at the time. So what I was saying was, 'Understand, this is almost out of my control. I'm programmed to be wild and free. But I want to come home. We'll make it all right.'"
